Hardwood floors are the perfect investment for any home or office. Not only do they add instant beauty and appeal, they stand the test of time, and deliver durable foundation for years to come. But in order to reap the benefits wood floors have to offer, you must take good care of them. This means having them sealed with a quality coating, and cleaning them regularly to prevent blemishes, fading, and structural damage. Routine sweeping and mopping are critical parts of wood floor maintenance, but adding in floor mats, furniture leg protectors, and area rugs helps too.

When choosing a wood floor cleaner, it is wise to avoid products with harsh chemicals. This is especially helpful in homes or businesses with pets and children. If you really want to play it safe, try making your own homemade wood floor cleaner. Homemade cleaners are cost-effective and eco-friendly! What You’ll Need:

• Pure Castile Soap
• Warm Water
• Natural Essential Oil
• 16 oz. Spray Bottle

You can purchase pure castile soap online, or at any local department store, for under a few dollars. This concentrated soap is made using organic ingredients, and is a highly effective detergent. Be sure your plastic water bottle is clean, and large enough to store all of your solution. Although optional, you can use natural essential oils to add a soft and subtle scent to your cleanser. Choose any scented oil you like. Some of popular choices include lavender, citrus, peppermint, lemongrass, eucalyptus, tea tree, hemp seed, and orange zest.

How to Make It:

Start by adding 3 drops of pure castile soap into a clean plastic spray bottle.

Next, fill your plastic spray bottle with warm water.

Then, add 4 to 5 drops of your favorite scented oil.

Tighten the cap on the spray bottle and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.

Tips for Using Your New Wood Floor Cleaner:

Remove all surface dirt with a microfiber mop before using your wood floor cleanser.

Test an area of your wood floor just to be sure there are no adverse reactions.

A little goes a long way, so use sparingly as you clean. Work in small sections as you go.

You can also use this same solution to clean countertops, tile floors, and enamel!
