Slamming Door Solutions
Door Stops
Have you tried a door stop yet? Sure, you might not want your doors to be open all the time, and you might be annoyed at the fact that you have to manually maneuver and place them where they need to be; but they do work well. Perhaps use a door stop until you can find something more permanent, like the additional remedies below.
Felt Pads
Felt pads work well to buffer the sound of a slamming door by absorbing the force of the slam. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and usually attach via adhesive backing. This is convenient because they are inexpensive, and you can install them yourself. The packs they come in generally leave a few extra if one falls off and needs replacement. Place the pads at the top and bottom of the door frame, or along the strike plate.
Weather Stripping
For heavier doors, you might need to choose something a bit stronger, like weather stripping. There are many types of weather stripping materials on the market, but aim for foam. Foam weather stripping does an effective job at holding up against wear and tear, while providing a secure sound buffer to the slamming itself. You simply cut to length and apply inside the entire door frame!
Pneumatic Closers
When all else fails, or an option is just not suitable for your slamming door mitigation needs, you might want to consider some better technology, like a pneumatic closer. Best for screen doors and storm doors, pneumatic closers are air-powered, and use an air-filled piston to control the speed of the door closing. Even better, they are generally adjustable, and can be fitted to virtually any residential screen or storm door.
